SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is important for businesses because it helps to improve the visibility of a website in search engines like Google. When a business’s website ranks highly in search results, it can lead to increased traffic, which can translate into more customers and revenue for the business.
Here are three areas to review to ensure you’re getting the most out of your current SEO practices:
To start, ensure the selected keywords from your keyword research are put into the page URL, title tag & page title/H1 tag. Conduct this research using tools like Semrush, Google Keyword Planner, Google Search Console or Answer the Public.
H1 tags/Page titles are the main topic of your page and should be featured within an H1 tag in the code. There should only be a single H1 as it helps Google understand the content and it should be different to the title tag you’ve selected.
Title tags are what will appear in the browser tab as well as in the links in Google searches. Keep them to under 60 characters as they will be truncated if they are too long.
Meta Descriptions & Image Alt Text
Meta descriptions are the featured text under the title tags in a Google search. Keep these concise (~155-160 characters) and write as naturally as you can while still including keywords as this will help describe what the user can expect to find on that page, which can help with Click Through Rate.
All images that you use on your blog should be compressed and include alt text for SEO and accessibility. The best practice for alt text is being sufficiently descriptive without attempting to keyword stuff. For example: alt=”stack of blueberry pancakes with powdered sugar” is better than just alt=”pancakes”.
Internal Linking & Backlinking
Link to internal pages when possible, wherever it makes sense. This could be linking to specific products, offerings, etc. that are being referred to in the blog post, or to other informational pages or contact pages with your Call To Actions. Having the blog page linked directly from the homepage or main navigation bar will also help improve the page’s authority/importance.
Lastly, try to provide some guest posts on relevant sites with links that backlink to the appropriate page. The more high-quality backlinks you add to your website, the more it becomes visible to the search engines and will help you rank more easily than merit alone.
